Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed. Star (Starscream) is an almost 4 month old dachsund chihuahua (chiweenie) mix who's about 8.5 lbs of absolute puppy love. His full name isn't "starscream" because he likes to scream, but was a part of a litter that was named after transformers! lol He is a sweet special puppy who arrived to our rescue with his mom & two other siblings at just 2 days old and has been in a foster home ever since. He likes being held in your arms, and enjoys getting affection and belly rubs. He LOVES to fetch and play with all kinds of toys. Are you the right family for Star? Since his other siblings have been adopted, Star has been feeling quite nervous about the big wide world, and will need a family that will be patient with showing him new experiences, keep his world small, and grow his world at his pace. Continuing puppy classes, puppy socials, and low-stake experiences that he learns are positive will help him gain confidence over time. He's not going to be a puppy you can take with you everywhere and big adventures meeting lots of new people and dogs are going to scare him. He will benefit from a calm home that is gentle, loving, and patient. In return, he will be your loving companion, and with your guidance will grow into a brave pup who will always be by your side! As a young puppy, he's learning lots of things like potty training, crate training, some very basic tricks like "sit" and "touch". He sleeps great in a crate throughout the night by his foster mom's bed, and if he needs to go out in the early morning for a potty he'll wake you up with a cute little yowl to let you know he's up. He knows how to settle in a crate for a few hours when he has to be left alone, and will wait patiently for you to let him out when you get back. His potty training skills are going great, and knows what "go potty" means, but of course will need continued positive reinforcement and chaperoning to go outside. Puppies adopted from Underdogs Rock! Rescue are required to go to force-free puppy classes with their new families because we know these classes are essential to providing puppies and their new families with a foundation of guidance and support as they grow up. Underdog puppies will have their vaccines and microchipped covered, and our rescue will cover their spay/neuter when they reach the appropriate age. Adoption fee is $525. He is being fostered in SE Portland. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at underdogsrock/adopt-a-dog . You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually. For updates on all the Underdogs be sure to follow the Underdogs Rock Rescue Facebook page .facebook/UnderdogsRockRescue

Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
