Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed. Joey is a 5.5 month old dachsund chihuahua (chiweenie) mix who's about 13 lbs of absolute puppy love. Joey is a sweet sensitive puppy that likes being held in your arms, and enjoys getting affection and belly rubs. His favorite thing is chasing toys, the hose water, and cuddling. Are you the right family for Joey? Joey is a sensitive little guy who takes time to warm up to new experiences and can feel nervous about the big wide world. He loves to be a homebody, and will need a family that will be patient with showing him new experiences, keep his world small, and grow his world at his pace. Taking him to puppy classes, puppy socials, and low-stake positive experiences will help him gain confidence over time . He will benefit from a calm home that is gentle, loving, and patient. With the right guidance he will learn to be confident and secure in unfamiliar experiences! A confident dog sibling will also really help him with his confidence, and he loves playing with the dogs he lives with in his foster home. Joey is learning lots of things like potty training, crate training, some very basic tricks like "sit" and "touch". He sleeps great in a crate throughout the night, and settles in a crate for a few hours when you've got to leave the house. His potty training skills are going great, and knows what "go potty" means, but of course will need continued positive reinforcement and chaperoning to go outside. Puppies adopted from Underdogs Rock! Rescue are required to go to force-free puppy classes with their new families because we know these classes are essential to providing puppies and their new families with a foundation of guidance and support as they grow up. Underdog puppies will have their vaccines and microchipped covered, and our rescue will cover their spay/neuter when they reach the appropriate age. Adoption fee is $525. He is being fostered in SE Portland. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at underdogsrock/adopt-a-dog . Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
