HAZELNUT - GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG / MIXED DOG FOR ADOPTION

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Hazelnut and her littermate Willie were scheduled for euthanasia on May 24, 2026. Shelters in the Central Valley are overcrowded, with too many abandoned dogs of all ages and sizes. Larger breeds, including puppies, are especially difficult to place in homes. Hazelnut and Willie were rescued just in time, thanks to the caring people who watch over puppies at the shelter. Since we had foster homes ready, we could help. The puppies arrived at their ShepHeroes foster homes on May 25, Memorial Day, after a Pilots and Paws flight. Many people worked together over the holiday weekend to make this happen. Hazelnut is getting comfortable in her foster home. She is very shy, but the two resident shepherds are helping her feel safe, along with her foster family, which includes a cat and three teenagers. Like many shelter dogs, both puppies arrived with upper respiratory infections and worms. Hazelnut has started a five-day course of Panacur to treat the worms and any possible Giardia or other parasites. Hazelnut had an excellent exam with our vet, got her second boosters and her hw/flea/tick preventatives, and started on fish oil to help with her dry coat. The vet asked us to keep an eye on her cold, as it's likely viral and hasn't progressed to the point of needing antibiotics at this time. Both puppies are underweight, so we are helping them gain strength with a healthy diet. We will share more updates soon. Please check their bios for the latest news.
