Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Part-Time Retriever, Full-Time Charmer Meet Bear, a lovable goofball with a big heart and an even bigger love for tennis balls! He enjoys playing fetch… sort of. Sometimes Bear follows the traditional rules, and sometimes he invents his own version by dropping the ball wherever he pleases and encouraging you to do the retrieving. Fair is fair, right? When he’s not supervising your fetch technique, Bear can be found splashing around in a kiddie pool, soaking up the good life. He currently lives with another dog and has done well sharing his space. Bear already knows sit, down, and paw/shake, and he’s highly motivated by treats, making him a fun student for anyone looking to continue his training. On walks, he can get a little excited and pull at times, but he’s generally easy to handle and responds well to consistent guidance. One thing about Bear: he loves his people. If he can see you but can’t be with you, he’ll let you know he misses you. His affectionate nature means he’s happiest when he’s part of the action and included in family life. If you’re looking for a playful, loyal companion with plenty of personality, Bear is ready to win your heart—one game of fetch (his way) at a time. Bear has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in his new home. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out his playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
