Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please note that PAHS does NOT do online adoption applications. You must come to the shelter in person to meet the PAHS pets. Abby is a 5-month-old female Black Lab/Terrier mix who came to PAHS after being found as a stray in the county. She’s white with black markings and has the most adorable terrier ears. Weighing just 24 pounds, she’s expected to grow into a medium-sized adult dog. Abby is friendly, affectionate, and great with both children and other dogs. She seems very smart and stays super alert, always interested in everything happening around her. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative. *****Please note that PAHS does NOT do online adoption applications. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
