Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua. A REAL TROUPER: Approx. 10 years old / Approx. 10 lbs. Hello, I’m Donna! I came to Mostly Mutts with three other doggies from a very neglectful situation. My first stop was animal control, where they began providing the veterinary care and attention I desperately needed. Mostly Mutts then took us in, and while it took quite a while for me to regain my health, they and my wonderful foster family went the extra mile to help me get well. Now I’m feeling great and am ready to meet my new family and enjoy the good life that every dog deserves. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I enjoy the sweet dogs in my foster home and absolutely love cuddling with them in the dog beds around the home. I would benefit greatly by having another friendly and gentle dog or two in my new home that I could pal around and nap with. I’ve always lived with other dogs and I really like that. / I’ve been friendly with the kitty in my foster home, but generally disinterested. All cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts or in my foster home, so let’s meet and best no young kids that may not know how to properly handle an older smaller dog. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet, resilient girl with a constantly wagging tail and a purposeful little trot when I’m out on walks. My ears perk up and my big brown eyes widen with curiosity and excitement, and beneath my initially timid nature is a loyal, happy dog who simply wants to feel safe and loved. When I first arrived, I was extremely skittish and easily startled by everyday things, especially when I wasn’t feeling well. Now that I’ve had plenty of time to adjust to my foster home, I’ve truly turned a corner and discovered my affectionate side! Because of my past neglectful situation, I’m looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will give me the time and support I need to settle in, feel secure, and continue blossoming into the wonderful companion I’m meant to be. / Energy level: 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home, I know ‘no’, ‘go outside’ and ‘stay’ (with a hand signal). I also come when my name is called. I’m a smart girl who is eager to learn, and I’m currently working on not door-dashing so I can be the best companion possible and not get lost out in the big world! Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so perhaps we can do more training together. / I do not use a crate in my foster home and actually have hurt myself when crated. I do, however, on rare occasions take a nap in it with the door open. / My potty habits have been pretty good on my foster’s schedule with a few initial accidents as I got used to my environment. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like running around in the backyard with my foster dog friends as we chase after chipmunks, and I especially enjoy sunning myself and rolling in the grass - that’s also when I like belly rubs! I enjoy walking and meeting people and dogs in the neighborhood, and I like to gently play with my foster’s smaller dogs, too. I’ve even started to snuggle up next to my foster family on the couch. Cookie-type dog treats are one of my favorite things, too! / I didn’t care for being picked up initially, but I’m doing better with that now. I was very head-shy but that’s improving, too – just give me some time to trust you. Baths are not my favorite thing, but I tolerate them, and thunder can be pretty scary for me, too. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough good care and gentle affection. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’ve just had a good dental cleaning with a couple of teeth removed, so my mouth is healthy again! I’m on an over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement which is good for all older dogs. I also take Zenrelia for my skin – it helps me not itch. I’m a wonderful little dog with an adorable little quirky side, too, and I’m looking for a loving, patient family to cherish me furever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
