Description
Dog Breed: Beagle (short coat). Toby is a handsome beagle pup who is coming to us through our owner surrender program…his mom realized she is gone too long during the day to give a young pup what he needs. Besides being a beautiful young boy, Toby is sweet, energetic, and loves to run and play with other dogs. He is good in the car and for baths, good with children he has met on walks, and good on leash. Although he is mostly well behaved when left alone, he is still a puppy and does like to chew on an occasional shoe or wire. Toby will bark at other dogs to try to get them to play and will also bark at cats he encounters, but does not bark when left alone. And he has a great beagle howl! He knows how to sit on command and we think would love to learn more. He is pee pad trained but will also do his business outside. Overall, Toby is a wonderful, precious pup who would love a home where he would spend a little less time alone and could get a little more attention. He is here in NJ ready to meet you! Toby will be brought up to date on all vaccines, tested for heartworm, and will be microchipped. He has been neutered. His adoption fee is $600. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
