Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Rocky is coming to us through our owner surrender program because his dad has fallen ill and cannot care for him anymore. Rocky is a mellow guy who does not mind being around other dogs. It is unknown how he is with cats. Rocky spent his whole life with a small child who he was very good with. He is a good boy on leash and loves to play with his stuffed animals. He is housebroken and well behaved. He is a little shy at first but warms up quickly and can be affectionate. We think Rocky is an easy, sweet boy who could thrive in most families. He is here in NJ and ready to meet your family. Rocky will be brought up to date on vaccines, tested for heartworm, neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $500. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through, they deserve a loving, committed home.

Shih Tzu
A.K.A.: Lion Dog, Chrysanthemum Dog, Foo Dog, Xi Shi dog, Tibetan Temple Dog, Chinese Imperial Dog, Lhasa Lion Dog, Shitzu, Schipperke, Tzu, Shih Tzu Kou, Kou
Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
