Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat). We want to introduce you to Tink… a 1.5 year old Yorkie who has already endured more pain than any dog ever should Tink was found as a stray and brought to our friends at GCAS in absolutely heartbreaking condition. Her fur was so severely matted that it cut off circulation to her back leg… causing it to become necrotic and septic. Let that sink in. This wasn’t just neglect — this was prolonged suffering. GCAS reached out to us immediately because Tink needed urgent medical intervention to save her life. The only option was an emergency leg amputation. Despite everything she’s been through, Tink is sweet, gentle, and fighting. She deserves a chance to live a life free from pain — to run, to play, to be loved the way she always should have been But we can’t do this alone. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
