Description
Dog Breed: Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. Meet Maggie – Looking for the Right Fit Please read before applying: Adorable Maggie is a sensitive girl who takes time to warm up to new people. She may seem standoffish at first, especially in a shelter setting, so meeting her once won’t show her true personality. Yes, our Maggie may take a little time to come out of her shell, but once she does, she becomes a deeply loyal and loving companion. If you’re willing to go slow and earn her trust, Maggie will reward you with endless affection and companionship. Please take a peek at her video below and see how playful and cuddly she can be. Also note that Maggie is 20 pounds, a little bigger than a typical ShihTzu so if she needs help getting in bed or the car this is good to know before adoption. Maggie is ready to explore the world. If a door is opened and an owner isn’t watching her, she may take advantage of the opportunity to go exploring. This means a quick jog down the street after her because this little sweetheart is FAST! About Maggie Maggie came to Pet Rescue by Judy after her previous owners had difficulty managing her interactions with another dog, including some toy-guarding behaviors. Since being in foster care, Maggie has shown that she can coexist with other dogs, but she may be happiest as the only pet in the home. Personality & Behavior Sweet, goofy, and affectionate once she feels safe Initially shy and reserved with new people Bonds deeply with her person after a few days of settling in Loves: Belly rubs Relaxing during movie nights Sleeping at the foot of the bed Car rides When visitors come over, Maggie may choose to ignore them—she prefers to observe from a distance until she feels comfortable. Daily Life & Habits ✅ Fully house-trained ✅ Enjoys soft food ✅ Likes a good morning walk and shorter daytime walks in warmer weather ✅ Will occasionally chase toys Might quietly stare at you while you eat (her subtle hint for snacks!) Care Needs Requires regular grooming Because of her long body, it’s recommended to: Provide steps or ramps to beds and couches Minimize excessive jumping to protect her back over time Other Pets Has lived with another dog in foster care but did not actively play or interact Due to her history, she would likely do best as an only dog or in a carefully managed home Ideal Home Maggie would thrive in a home that is: Adult-only (no children) Quiet, with minimal foot traffic or visitors Patient and understanding of shy dogs Willing to give her time to adjust at her own pace Committed to regular grooming and ongoing care One that can provide excersise with walks and play time. Final Thoughts Maggie may take a little time to come out of her shell, but once she does, she becomes a deeply loyal and loving companion. If you’re willing to go slow and earn her trust, Maggie will reward you with endless affection and companionship. Also note that Maggie is 20 pounds, a little bigger than a typical shihTzu so if she needs help getting in bed or the car this is good to know before adoption.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Shih Apso is a charming and affectionate designer breed, a delightful blend of the Lhasa Apso and the Shih Tzu. Originating from crossing these two beloved Tibetan breeds, the Shih Apso inherits a wonderful combination of traits. Physically, they are typically small to medium-sized, boasting a luxurious, long, and often wavy double coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Their appearance can vary, but generally, they possess expressive eyes and a sweet, often flattened face. Temperamentally, they are known for being friendly, intelligent, and quite playful, making them excellent companions. They adapt well to apartment living and are generally good with respectful children and other pets, though early socialization is always beneficial. While generally healthy, potential health concerns can include respiratory issues common to brachycephalic breeds, as well as eye and joint problems, underscoring the importance of choosing a reputable breeder. Their loving nature makes them a wonderful addition to many households seeking a devoted furry friend.
