Text PENNY to 864‑441‑9075 for my full story, photos, and videos — we’ll send everything you need to know! If you want to skip straight to the application: . carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Here’s Your Quick Peek: Penny is a young, athletic, high‑energy standard poodle who came to CPR as a stray from Lexington County Animal Shelter. She’s affectionate, playful, and incredibly smart — but she needs structure, supervision, and an experienced adopter who understands high‑drive dogs. Must have: An active, adult‑only home; someone home often; no small animals; no children; strong supervision; secure environment. Exercise: High — she needs daily physical and mental outlets. Best with: Active adults; large, stable dogs (optional); someone who enjoys training and engagement. Not ideal for: Small dogs, cats, children, elderly adopters, apartments, or homes with shared walls. Energy level: Very high — athletic, busy, and always ready to move. Penny has separation anxiety and can become destructive when left alone. She has also learned how to break out of crates, so she cannot be crated unsupervised. She is not good with small dogs or small animals and has a strong prey drive. Penny is friendly with adults but her strength and enthusiasm can be overwhelming for kids or elderly individuals. Good with dogs: Yes — but only large dogs; no small dogs. Good with kids: We would not recommend Penny to a home with young children. 15+ Cats: No. Fun fact: Penny can clear a 6‑ft fence like it’s nothing — she’s an athlete through and through, and she’ll keep you laughing with her goofy, expressive personality. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Overview:
The Standard Poodle is a captivating and highly intelligent breed with a rich history, believed to have originated in Germany as a water retriever before being refined in France. Renowned for their distinctive, dense, and curly coat—which is virtually non-shedding, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers—they are elegant and athletic dogs. Physically, they possess a proud carriage, a long muzzle, and dark, expressive eyes, typically weighing between 45-70 pounds. Their temperament is characterized by being highly intelligent, easily trainable, and generally good-natured, though they require mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Standard Poodles are surprisingly adaptable, thriving in active families and even adapting well to apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental engagement. While generally healthy, owners should be aware of potential health concerns like hip dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions. Their combination of brains, beauty, and biddability makes them a truly versatile and rewarding companion.
