Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $250.00. Bessie's prologue: a lonely stray, unclaimed and unwanted. Chapter 1: Bessie ends up in a rural but reputable rescue in a place called Atchafalaya. Her medical needs are met and she finds love and kindness. Chapter 2: Bessie makes the long trip to Florida. Arrives tired and itchy. Gets a bath and a long nap. NOW the story gets even better for Bessie. She just moves in to her foster home. The other 2 dogs accept her. The cats treat her as one of the gang and she is adopted by one in particular -- a senior cat who sits and sleeps with her. Bessie is blossoming. She likes being petted and loved but she does not push for it. She is gentle and has no problem sharing her food or toys... she is just starting to get a little interested in toys. Bessie's not a big eater, appears to be completely house broken and walks well on leash. She loves going outside to sniff, explore and chase lizzards. Bessie will sleep the entire night in her crate with the door open, but she also loves a comfy dog bed or a couch. She is lovely and loving and deserves the rest of her story to be as beautiful as she is. She was heartworm positive but has already been treated and doing great. She will be scheduled for spay surgery soon and will then be ready for the rest of her romance tale ...with you starring as her hero.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
