She’s just learning to be a dog and she has come so far in just two weeks in her foster home. She loves her foster brother and follows him around, learning new things everyday (and she’s pretty). She has become a champ walking on lead and has a great record for pottying outside. She has the softest coat and gets bathed about weekly and brushed every other day. She tolerates both, but it takes effort on her part. She’s a low clearance girl, so standing in water is not her idea of fun. She’s really a shorty! But at about 12#, she’s definitely a mini. She is currently very skittish around new people. She is still learning to trust. That can take a while. But she’s very content sitting on your lap, in her bed, or on the couch. And do I mention she’s pretty? She does need a ramp or stairs to get onto furniture and benefits from stairs to get up three steps into her foster house. She’s not much of a jumper and has had back issues in the past. Right now, she gets around well and goes for a walk twice a day. She’s building strength and stamina. Continuing that habit will help her live a healthy life. She walks at a leisurely pace. She’s never going to run with you, though she has run in the yard a bit with her foster brother… well behind him. She’s so pretty and docile! She would be good in a home with an older adoptive parent or in a home with another small dog. So far, she’s not very comfortable around bigger dogs or fast moving small children. Misti does require a fenced yard to keep her safe. She doesn't know any recall commands and she gets spooked easily. Play (with) Misti? She’s learning. Right now she doesn’t show much interest. But she’s very content watching her foster brother when he chases his toys. She’s sweet and pretty. She won’t be fully vetted with her spay and dental until the end of June. At that time she will be fully available for adoption.” Misti is 6 yrs old, she weighs 12 pounds, her adoption fee is $350 plus sales tax $15.75=$365.75 My adoption fee help with my vetting needs such as HW test, presurgical bloodwork, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, spay, dental and microchipping.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
