Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet this gentle Great Pyrenees sweetheart, a shy but loving soul who is looking for a patient family to call her own. She may take a little time to warm up, but once she trusts you, she'll happily soak up all the affection and attention you have to give. Her sweet, gentle nature makes her wonderful with children, and she gets along beautifully with other dogs. True to her Great Pyrenees roots, she loves spending time outdoors. You'll often find her relaxing in a shady spot, listening to the birds and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. She's happiest when she can quietly take in the world around her at her own pace. Don't let her calm demeanor fool you, though—she still has a playful side. When the resident puppy invites her to play, she's more than willing to join in a game of chase and tackle, proving that even a gentle giant enjoys a little fun and mischief now and then. While she's confident in the great outdoors, television remains a bit of a mystery to her. The sights and sounds can be puzzling, but she'd much rather spend her time cuddling with her favorite people or lounging under a tree anyway. If you're looking for a calm, kind-hearted companion with a gentle spirit, a playful streak, and lots of love to give, this beautiful girl may be the perfect addition to your family. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $650.00

Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
