Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (long coat). Mia is a sweet and friendly mini aussie. She loves toys, especially her yellow duck. She also loves walks and playing with other dogs. She's playful and affectionate with people too. Her ideal home would be with someone who enjoys exercising with an active, loyal and attentive dog. Mia would be excited to have a playful canine companion about her size. She plays nicely with small dogs too, but she'd enjoy more fun and exercise with a dog her size. She does pull at times on walks and sometimes barks at people she sees, but when she gets to meet them, she's friendly and enjoys their attention. Mia is house trained and crate trained & she sleeps through the night. She enjoys activity, but also likes relaxing on the couch with her person. She will be 6 yrs. old on June 3rd. She is spayed and recently had a dental done too. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $300 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs. We do not ship dogs. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.

Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
