Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. This sweet boy is Frisco. He is a 1 1/2 yr old Hound mix. He’s a great size at a little over 50 pounds. Frisco is a friendly boy with a great temperament! He loves people and other dogs and would likely make a great buddy for another playful dog. Frisco has proven to be treat motivated and a quick learner! He will need some additional training and a little time to acclimate to life in a home, but he has the potential to be a great family dog! Frisco is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and ready to leave kennel life behind. Please consider meeting this handsome guy to see if he could be the perfect match for you! In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
