Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (medium coat). Some info on Bennie now that I've had him a few days: - He LOVES people, is very playful and gentle. Zero aggression, zero territorial behavior (so far at least) with my dog, Archie, who is moderately territorial. - He's housebroken and crate trained and has been sleeping in his crate with no issues other than a little whining when we first leave him alone. - He knows Sit, Shake, and just learned Down. VERY smart, very fast learner! - He knows how to fetch. - He's great with other dogs and with cats. - He's a big old snuggle bug. - The vet said he can't be more than a year old. - He was clearly cared for by people before being abandoned. He's a GREAT dog!!!! I love him! :) He'll make a wonderful companion for someone. :)

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
