Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Basset Hound / Mixed. Meet Nelson, a two-year-old Dachshund and Basset Hound mix who traveled all the way from Mountain City, Tennessee, to find his true forever family. Nelson unfortunately found himself in need of a fresh start after his previous owner moved and chose not to bring him along. Despite the setback, this resilient boy is keeping his chin up and looking forward to his next big adventure. He has already earned a hilarious reputation among his rescue friends. He has been affectionately dubbed "No Leg Nelson." But a quick look proves that he does, in fact, have four fully functional legs! They just happen to be wonderfully short, low-to-the-ground, and packed with classic hound charm—making "Wee Little Leg Nelson" a much more accurate title. Short legs aside, Nelson is an absolute catch for any household. He is already housebroken and gets along wonderfully with both kids and other dogs. He has also been cat-tested and, with a slow and patient introduction, he is expected to do just fine sharing his space with a feline sibling. With his soulful eyes, floppy ears, and sweet demeanor, Nelson is the perfect blend of companion and comedian. He is ready to put his past behind him and settle into a stable, loving environment. Nelson is looking for a loyal family who will give him the commitment he deserves and ensure he is a cherished part of every move they make. Nelson is fully vaccinated, neutered and ready to meet you. Apply today at ehrdogs. Breed overview
Overview:
The Basschshund is an engaging mixed breed, a delightful cross between the sturdy Basset Hound and the spirited Dachshund. Originating from the desire for a companion dog with a charming personality, these hybrids typically inherit the long, low-slung body of both parents, often with the distinctive long, floppy ears of the Basset. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, reflecting the diversity of their lineage. Temperamentally, Basschshunds are known for being affectionate, loyal, and sometimes a little stubborn, making early training and socialization crucial. They are generally good with families and can adapt well to apartment living, provided they receive regular walks and mental stimulation. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of possible inherited conditions like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their long backs, and ear infections, common in dogs with pendulous ears.
