Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed. Have you been thinking about adopting two dogs but worried about keeping eight paws clean? We have the perfect solution -- a 7-Paw Special! Meet Maxx and Trig, two teenage rescue boys whose paths crossed after very different starts in opposite corners of the state. In just a few short weeks, they've formed an incredible bond and become the sweetest of friends. As Trig recovers from surgery, Maxx has been a gentle, patient companion. He quickly learned to walk nicely alongside Trig's stroller and has been a steady source of comfort throughout his recovery. Trig, in turn, adores Maxx, often seeking him out for snuggles and happily walking beside him on leash. Together they're discovering the joys of playing fetch with balls and Frisbees, love going for car rides, and have wonderfully matched energy levels. While Maxx and Trig are each available for adoption individually, we'd love nothing more than to find a special home willing to keep this unlikely pair together and continue the journey they've begun. Their ideal home would include: Adults or a family with older children, an open floor plan that is easy for Trig to navigate, a securely fenced yard, and experience with dogs who have medical needs or disabilities is preferred. Trig is expected to make a full recovery, but a family that understands rehabilitation and is committed to supporting his continued progress would be the perfect fit. Trig is a handsome 2-year-old brindle mixed-breed boy with a heart as big as his 70-pound frame. This sweet, gentle soul has overcome more challenges than most dogs ever will, and through it all he has remained loving, trusting, and eager to make friends wherever he goes. Trig is house-trained, gets along well with other dogs, and is wonderfully gentle with children. He enjoys the simple things in life -- moderate walks, long stroller rides, car rides, cozy naps, and spending time with his people and canine companions. When he sees his stroller come out, his excitement is impossible to miss! Trig is currently recovering from a traumatic injury that resulted in the amputation of his front right leg, followed by several surgeries. His wound has healed, and meds are complete now as he finds his new normal. He navigates his home and yard surprisingly well on three legs, including 4 steps on the deck. His exercise continues to improve. He walks up to a mile twice a day. Less in the heat. He has enjoyed stroller rides, but those are winding down as he improves. Ideally, a car ride to a fun place for a short walk is his dream. Despite the hardships he's endured, Trig remains incredibly kind and resilient. He loves people, adores his brother Maxx, shows interest in other dogs, and is beginning to reveal what an engaging, social companion he'll be once he's fully healed. His name was changed from Tig to Trig, nodding to his Tigger looks and new triangle stance that together carry him through life. Trig is looking for a patient, compassionate family willing to continue supporting his recovery and celebrate every milestone along the way. Preference to a home with a companion dog. In return, you'll get a loyal best friend whose courage, sweetness, and determination are truly inspiring. If you're looking for a gentle giant with an incredible story and an even bigger heart, Trig may be the perfect addition to your family. Maxx is a 2-year-old Shepherd with a big body, soft heart, and just a touch of lovable chaos. At 85 pounds, he’s truly a gentle giant who doesn’t quite realize his own size. He loves his belly rubs and will melt down at your feet to ask for one. Maxx is also a local celebrity and destined for the silver screen. Recently he was on WCCO with our Executive Director Kerry D'Amato .cbsnews/minnesota/video/maxx-is-roughly-95-pounds-of-pure-love-looking-for-a-forever-home/#x Maxx is fully house trained but not a fan of being crated. We're working on free roam while I'm gone for short trips...he's doing well. He's quite attentive watching for my return but settles nicely when he feels safe. He also does great in the car! He’s incredibly people-focused, eager to please, and already showing off his smarts with commands like sit, shake, lay down, stay, and of course, come! Maxx has a sibling dog in Trig and loves him. Having a sibling dog would be ideal. Cats have been a bridge too far, so not recommended. He cannot live in homes with young kids (under 13) simply due to his size — he could easily knock little ones over without meaning to. Older, dog-savvy kids would be a better match. Maxx is big and strong, and walks are a workout. He generally follows along, but a quick, strong diversion to a tree or bush is likely, as is excitement at seeing other dogs. When stimulated, he has heightened awareness, nervousness, and unpredictability. Shorten the leash, steer clear of the issue, and move along....it takes effort and focus. He's not aggressive, just agitated. After the walk of a mile or two, less in heat, he's ready to crash. He loves to lay on the deck in nice weather, or anywhere inside and pass out. He takes his time eating breakfast and pounds down dinner. An active home that can control his exercise needs will get a lovable lug in return. We're working on fetch...he'll get it soon. Fenced yard is preferred. His strength makes other containment less safe. He’s a big, goofy, loving dog who just wants to be near his people and be told he’s a good boy (which he is). With the right mix of exercise, structure, and love, Maxx is going to be an incredibly loyal and fun companion. If you're looking for twice the love, twice the companionship, and one truly special friendship, Maxx and Trig are ready to meet you. Sometimes the best things come in pairs, even if they only have seven paws between them.
