Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Honey, the 4 year old Belgian Malinois who is as sweet as can be! She was surrendered to us after her previous owner was unable to care for her. Honey is an active dog with a lot of energy! She will need a home that can give her lots of playtime and enrichment to help keep her happy! In her previous home, she did will with other dogs as well as young children, and even lived with a cat! Adopters should plan on doing a slow introduction to make sure any resident animals create a bond with Honey that sticks! She is a loyal girl who really loves her people once she gets to know them. If you are looking for a running buddy with energy to burn and love to give, consider Honey! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
