Description
Dog Breed: Maltese (medium coat). Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying. Thank you for your cooperation. STRAY - NEW INTAKE NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 6/9/2026: Marcella - female - approx 4 years old - 8.14 pounds - Maltese Reason for intake: Marcella was found at Ford Park in Shreveport on Saturday, 6/6/2026, under a slide. Thankfully, a really nice young lady spotted her and scooped her up! Ford Park is a notorious dumping ground for dogs. This isn't the first time we've taken in dogs found there. This poor girl was heavily matted with lots of fleas. The finder shaved her and gave her a much needed bath. She posted her on Facebook and we were tagged multiple times in the post. The young lady reached out and we took her in today. She is not chipped and was wearing no collar. We have notified animal control and they've entered her into their system. We are posting her here and sharing her to multiple groups. If this is your dog, you must show proof via pictures... vet records, etc. We don't go off of "see if the dog will answer to xxxx". We don't go off of someone just saying the dog is their dog. You must have PROOF! If you are the owner, you must contact US, not animal control. Once we determine the dog is yours, we will make arrangements for you to meet us at animal control to reclaim and pay the necessary fees. If no one claims, she'll be heading to our vet the week of 6/15/2026 for spaying and everything else she needs. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS: Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed. Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining. In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason. We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption. In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered. Please note… we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption. Please wait until the dog is available for adoption. We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link: .facebook/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at .roadtorescuela. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~ Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life. Blessings.

Overview:
The elegant Maltese is a delightful toy breed renowned for its captivating beauty and charming personality. Originating from the island of Malta, these ancient dogs were once favored companions of European nobility. Physically, they are characterized by their single coat of long, silky, pure white hair that gracefully drapes over a compact, well-proportioned body, typically weighing between 4-7 pounds. Their expressive dark eyes and black button nose add to their adorable appeal. Temperamentally, Maltese are known for being affectionate, playful, and intelligent, making them highly trainable and eager to please. They thrive on human companionship and are generally excellent with children and other pets, provided they are socialized early. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them ideal for apartment living and suitable for families of all types, including first-time dog owners. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific concerns such as dental issues and luxating patellas.
