Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). #A5767727 Say hello to Yara , a 7-year-old German Shepherd mix with classic, striking good looks and a soulful presence that’s impossible to ignore. With her long, graceful build, plush black and tan coat, and perfectly perky ears, she’s a dream come true for any shepherd lover. Yara has been waiting at the shelter for two months and urgently needs someone to take a chance on her and give her the life she deserves. She has a beautifully balanced energy level - calm and gentle, yet still playful and happy to romp around with other dogs. Due to her size and enthusiasm, she’d do best in an adults-only home, where she can move freely without worry of knocking over little ones. Loyal, independent, and deeply affectionate, Yara is ready to be your devoted companion - she just needs someone to see her worth before it’s too late. Will that be you? -7 year old black and tan German Shepherd mix -70 pound spayed female -may need the standard round of shots and preventatives before she can go home with you, but the shelter can likely help with this! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 4/6/26 as a stray -best suited for an adults only home due to her size and energy level -sweet and soulful, independent, loyal, and affectionate -great on leash, potty trained, sociable with both people and other pups, and knows basic commands like sit and give paw - so extra training should be a breeze! Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
