Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Hera! Hera is an adorable 7-week-old Pit Bull mix puppy weighing approximately 8 pounds who is now available for preadoption! She came to Rockwall Adoption Center at just 5 days old after her mother rejected her and her sister. Thankfully, she was placed into a loving foster home where she has been bottle-raised and given the care she needed to grow into the happy, healthy puppy she is today. She is now available for preadoption and will be able to go to her FURever home on 6/16/26. Like any young puppy, Hera is still learning about the world around her. She is growing, exploring, and figuring out what it means to be a beloved family companion. She will need a family with the time, patience, and commitment to continue her training, socialization, and development as she matures. While in foster care, Hera has been exposed to other dogs and cats and is continuing to learn appropriate boundaries and manners with both animals and people. She is a sweet puppy with a bright future ahead of her and is looking for a family ready to guide her through all of life's adventures. Her adoption fee is $125, which includes her spay, microchip, rabies vaccination, first round of puppy boosters, and deworming. Important: Hera will be required to return to Rockwall Adoption Center at approximately 3 months of age for her spay surgery and rabies vaccination. The date is scheduled for Wednesday, 7/15/26. This appointment is non-negotiable and is a condition of the adoption contract in accordance with Texas state law. If you are interested in making Hera part of your family, please submit an adoption application at: rockwalladoptions/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by her foster family, and a meet and greet can be scheduled to see if Hera is the perfect fit for your home. All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. For questions, please call 972-771-7750 ext. 2 or email infoRockwallAdoptions. IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
