Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (medium coat). The application is the first step in the adoption process, so if you are interested in adopting please fill out the online adoption application first by visiting our website at .dachshundpaws Odie is an adorable 3-month-old Mini Dachshund with a loving, outgoing personality. He enjoys meeting new people and quickly makes friends. Odie has all the classic Dachshund features—short little legs, chunky paws, and those irresistibly big ears. This sweet boy is playful, affectionate, and full of puppy charm. He loves spending time with his people and has a blast playing with lots of squeaky toys. Odie would thrive in a home with another playful dog around his size who can be his buddy and help burn off some puppy energy. Because he's small and still learning the ropes, a home without young children would be the best fit. Like many Dachshunds, Odie is still working on house training, so his future family should be prepared to continue helping him learn and stay consistent with his routine. He's making progress, but it's definitely still a work in progress. Odie is not yet neutered. A neuter deposit will be required with his adoption. Once he is old enough, adopters may use their own veterinarian and receive the deposit back upon providing proof of neuter, or they may choose our veterinarian and have the deposit applied toward the cost of the procedure. Odie’s adoption fee: $1000 plus a $300 neuter deposit. We do not have a kennel or facility to visit, all dogs are kept in foster homes until their forever homes are found. Adoption Process: Once an approved application is on file, we will then set up a home visit. At that time we will bring the dog to the home in which you will all be sharing. We ask the entire family to be there that day. If we all agree on the placement, then the dog will stay with you that day. Please visit our website at .dachshundpaws

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
