Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Terrier / Mixed. Looking for a super sweet active partner? Meet Flora, a I year and 2 months old girl. Note the striking color of her eyes and the most expressive ears that are always tuning in for a better signal! She is an Australian cattle dog/blue heeler mix which may account for those beautiful light brown ears and short white coat. Currently, she weighs 26 pounds, putting her in the medium size range. She loves to run and play with the other dogs at the shelter and considers the volunteers at the shelter her friends. She just melts in your arms when you pet her. It is not known if she has lived with younger kids or cats. Australian cattle dog/blue heeler mixes are known for their intelligence. They are fast learners and like to be given a job to do. They are very loyal to their family and want to be part of their daily life, not left alone in a back yard. They do best in an active household where they could go hiking, running, or play games of fetch. Since we do not know how much training Flora has had, she continues to work on her house, crate, and leash training. She, like most pups will be a quick learner once routines are established. Daily walks will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to her with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along her walk. Be the talk of the town when you have Flora walking with you around the neighborhood. There will be a buzz of attention, and all eyes will be on Flora. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Flora is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
