Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Honey Bee, the tan terrier mix with the cutest scruffy face! Honey Bee came to the shelter after her owner could no longer care for her. Here at the shelter she has taken a little bit of time to come out of her shell, but she is as sweet as can be and loves to give kisses! She did well with the dogs she met here at the shelter, but adopters should always plan to do a meet and greet and proceed with a slow introduction at home with any resident dogs. At her previous home, Honey Bee loved to play fetch and tug of war! If you are looking for a pup with a huge heart full of love and a playful spirit, come down and meet Honey Bee! She may have some kisses for you too! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
