Dog Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). Meet Coco, a gentle 9-year-old gentleman looking for a soft place to land. Coco arrived at the shelter with his two sisters after the person who loved them could no longer care for them. Understandably, this sudden change left Coco feeling scared and uncertain. At first, he kept his distance from people, but with patience and kindness from volunteers, he has slowly begun to let his guard down. Coco is a serious little man who doesn't give away his trust easily, but once you've earned it, you'll be rewarded with a sweet tail wag and his quiet companionship. He has a gentle, loving nature and enjoys being around people he knows well. Currently, Coco shares a room with several other small male dogs. He gets along nicely with them, happily mingling while staying far away from any doggy drama. Because of this, he may do well with another calm, social dog who can help him feel secure. Coco is searching for a calm, stable home where he can take his time adjusting and healing from the loss of everything familiar. He doesn't need much—just patience, understanding, and someone willing to show him that his best days are still ahead.This sweet senior boy deserves a final chapter filled with love, comfort, and the security of a forever home. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
