Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Elizabeth is a beautiful 3-year-old girl, weighing about 50 pounds, who made the journey all the way from Texas in search of her forever family. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, house trained, kennel trained, and knows basic commands like sit and lay down. Elizabeth is also wonderful with other dogs and does great around cats, choosing to simply ignore them. Like many dogs adjusting to a new home, Elizabeth can be a little nervous during her first few days. She may need a little time to decompress and learn that she's safe, but once she does, she settles in beautifully and her loving personality shines through. Elizabeth is the type of dog who just wants to be with her people. Whether you're going for a walk, heading out for a run, working around the house, or relaxing on the couch watching TV, shell happily be right there with you. Shes affectionate, loyal, and loves being part of whatever her family is doing. After making such a long trip to find a better life, Elizabeth deserves a home where she'll never have to wonder where she belongs again. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
