Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Mooney! At just 3 years old, Mooney is discovering what life can be like after overcoming a difficult beginning. Coming from a hoarding situation, much of the world is still new to him, and heâs learningâone day at a timeâthat life can be good. Mooney is incredibly sweet and loves people. He has formed a strong bond with his foster family and is a true Velcro dog who loves being close to his person. He is looking for a patient and understanding home that will allow him to continue making sense of the world at his own pace. New places and unfamiliar situations, especially at night, can be scary for him, but with reassurance and consistency, his confidence continues to grow. He gets along with other dogs, though he seems to communicate a little differently than most and has not yet shown much interest in play. Instead, Mooney prefers the comfort and security of his trusted humans. He is also learning that crates can be safe, cozy spaces. Mooneyâs ideal family will appreciate that healing takes time and will celebrate the small victories along the way. Watching this sweet boy discover the joys of being a dog is incredibly rewarding, and whoever opens their heart to him will have the privilege of seeing him continue to blossom. Mooney is currently living in a foster home, so please call to schedule an appointment to meet this special boy.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
