Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 6 months (as of 7/9/26) Weight: 32 lbs (as of 6/18/26) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Polyantha a delightful puppy with a name as charming as her personality. Polyantha and her sister Gertrude and her brothers Abraham Darby, Mr Lincoln, Pierre De Ronsard, and David Austin are named after varieties of beautiful roses. Polyantha is a 6 month old hound mix who is one of the bravest of the Rose littermates when it comes to going on adventures, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. She does well with other dogs and is friendly with all the humans she’s met so far, including children. Polyantha enjoys playing with other dogs, swimming, playing with toys, a good chew, and spending time with her humans. She’d make a wonderful adventure buddy - one that will go on hikes, hop in the water, and take it all in. She’s an athletic girl with some major ups so if you have a fence, 6 foot or higher would be best to keep this girl inside of it. Her athleticism would it fun to teach her tricks or participate in agility! Polyantha is house trained, sleeps through the night in her crate although she doesn’t love being crated and is doing great with her leash training. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. Adopting Polyantha or one of her littermates, means bringing home a bundle of happiness that will fill your life with laughter and companionship. Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption. This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
