Breed overview
Overview:
The Havamalt is an endearing designer breed, a delightful cross between the gentle Havanese and the elegant Maltese. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both beloved toy breeds, Havamalts are known for their small stature, typically weighing between 7-13 pounds. Their luxurious, soft coat, which can be wavy or straight and comes in a variety of colors, is generally low-shedding, making them a good option for those with allergies, though regular grooming is essential to prevent matting. Temperamentally, they are affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please, often displaying a playful yet calm demeanor. This makes them highly adaptable, thriving in both apartment living and larger homes, and they are particularly well-suited for families with children or seniors due to their gentle nature. While generally robust, potential health considerations can include patellar luxation, eye conditions, and dental issues, so choosing a reputable breeder is paramount for a healthy companion.
