Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. I've had Bo for 4 years. I rescued him after he had been hit and left injured. It was during covid so animal shelters were not taking any animals, so I just kept him. We just found out that the little 3 yr old we're in the process of adopting is allergic to animal dander sometimes resulting in febrile seizures. Although Bo is 5 yrs old, he's an old soul. He just loves to lay in his bed all day and protect the homefront. He's never bitten anyone. He is good with children, but not other male dogs. (He wants to be the dominant one.) Bo is pee pad trained and is house broken. He's been neutered. He had his vet exam and up to date vaccinations in April 2026. He's mostly an inside dog but spends hours outside. In the springtime his allergies act up, but I just give him Benedryl 25-50 mg (OTC) when his eyes get red. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
