Dog Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua. This 4-month-old sweetheart is named Chandler which is a rather big name for his breed which is Chiweenie. A Chiweenie is a mix of Chihuahua and Dachshund and so is a small dog. Our boy may be small, but his personality is large and loving! He presently weighs 12 to 15 pounds and will mature to only about 18 to 20 pounds. Heâs great with other dogs, kids and his fosterâs cat, too! Heâs truly a delight! The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets.
