Description
Dog Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Cornelius is with our partner rescue in LA and can come to NJ with an approved foster or adopter. Cornelius is a short, stout little guy rocking a pair of impressive, upright ears that seem to have a personality of their own. We were told he’s a Chihuahua–Dachshund mix… but honestly, he’s giving strong “tiny Jack Russell with a plot twist” energy. At just 6 months old and about 11 pounds, Cornelius is nearly full-grown but still very much a baby at heart. He’s sweet, playful, smart, and full of goofy charm—but here’s the catch: he doesn’t hand that over to just anyone. Cornelius is a “you have to get to know me first” kind of guy. New people? He’ll politely keep his distance. But once he feels safe, his real personality comes out—and it’s all wiggles, zoomies, and pure joy. Watching him open up is half the magic. Originally a “country dog” from rural Mississippi, Cornelius is experiencing lots of firsts in his foster home. The world is still a big, new place, and he’s learning about it one brave step at a time. One thing he’s already mastered? Making dog friends. Cornelius absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful canine buddy to show him the ropes and help build his confidence. If you’re the kind of person who understands that the best relationships take a little time—and you’re ready to watch a shy pup blossom into your hilarious, loyal sidekick—Cornelius just might be your guy He is fixed, micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccines. His adoption donation is $600. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

More About Jack Chi BreedOverview:
The Jack Chi is a delightful designer breed, a cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the energetic Jack Russell Terrier. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, this hybrid typically inherits a compact size, weighing between 8-18 pounds and standing 10-15 inches tall. Their physical appearance varies, often featuring a short, smooth coat in colors like black, white, tan, or a combination, with alert, intelligent eyes. Temperamentally, Jack Chis are known for being playful, intelligent, and loyal companions. They possess the Chihuahua's affectionate nature and the Jack Russell's zest for life, making them engaging pets. While adaptable to apartment living due to their smaller stature, they require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. They can be good with families who understand their need for consistent training and socialization, especially with younger children. Notable health considerations for the Jack Chi include potential predispositions to conditions seen in their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation, dental issues, and heart problems, highlighting the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
