Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet our precious little all-star, Freya! This young pup is the perfect mix of spunk, bounce, and wide-eyed wonder. Friendly to her core, she absolutely loves people of all ages. Freya is a smart cookie who is making great strides in her training. She’s currently working on her manners, mastering crate and leash skills, and learning the ropes of doggy socializing. Because she’s a higher-energy gal, she’ll thrive with regular exercise and a steady supply of good chew toys. She is growing fast and might end up being a big girl—potentially 60 lbs or more—so her future family should be ready for a big, lovable bundle of energy! Dog & Cat Compatibility: Freya gets along well with other dogs and takes direction beautifully. Because she is a strong-willed girl who can sometimes be a bit overbearing with smaller pups, she’d do best with a dog housemate who doesn't mind a confident personality. She also does not mind cats! Ideal Home: Experience with Bully breeds, Pitbulls, or Dogos is a major plus. However, because Freya has such a fantastic attitude and takes direction so well, she would also be a wonderful match for a first-time Bully-breed owner who is ready to commit to her training. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
