Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). All of our dogs are housed in private homes, we do not have a store or a shelter. We do not show dogs to interested parties until they have an approved adoption application. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an adoption application on our website .helpingshepherdsofeverycolor/adoption-application You may also find us on facebook: Helping Shepherds of Every Color Rescue. Update 6/22/26: Gerri is ready for adoption. He has gained weight, his skin has recovered and he has been treated for Heartworms. In spite of all he has endured, Gerri is the sweetest dog. He just soaks up all the love. He is dog and cat friendly. He is working on his housebreaking. Gerri is super quiet and he just wants to soak up all the affection that he probably never had. Gerri is in a foster home in Panama City Beach, so if you live in that area he is closer to you. If you are not in that area and want to adopt him, that can be arranged. 4/18/26 Gerri was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. He was emaciated and had skin infections. Gerri is super sweet and mellow. He is recuperating and putting on weight and getting his skin and tummy back in good shape. He is HW positive so once he is healthy enough we will treat the heartworms.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
