This tiny but mighty sweetheart came to rescue from a hoarding situation, but she has made incredible progress and continues to blossom more every day. She's also currently growing her beautiful coat back after successfully being treated for mange. Miranda may be small, but she has a big personality! She's especially vocal around breakfast and dinner time because she always knows exactly when it's mealtime and isn't shy about reminding you! Miranda absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with friendly, playful canine companions. In fact, she's very much a "dog's dog." While she's sweet with her people, she tends to prefer the company of other dogs over being the center of human attention. Her ideal home would have one or two adults who understand and appreciate her independent nature. She'd love a home where someone is around often and where she has dog friends to keep her company. Watching her confidence grow has been a joy, and she's ready to find a patient, loving home that will let her continue to shine. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
