Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Meet Holly! If your idea of a perfect evening involves a warm lap and a snuggly little companion, Holly might just be your girl. This 2-year-old terrier mix weighs in at a tiny 7 lbs but brings a whole lot of sweetness. Holly loves every person she meets and lives for closeness with her people — she is, in every sense of the word, a lap dog. Life with Holly Holly is gentle, playful, and happiest when she's near her humans. She's fully housebroken and will also use pee pads — handy for those rainy days, since Holly is not a fan of getting her paws wet! She's crate trained and sleeps through the night in her crate, though she'd never say no to snuggling up beside you or a furry friend. Other Animals Holly is friendly with dogs of all sizes and will happily try to make a new best friend — she just hasn't quite figured out that not everyone wants to play right away. A home with another small, social dog would be ideal. She doesn't bother cats and has lived alongside them peacefully. Kids Holly has been around children and does fine, though she tends to prefer quieter interactions. When she needs a break, she'll simply head to her crate — her safe space. She'd do best in a home with older, calmer kids who can respect her cues. The Yard Holly's nose and eyes are always working overtime — squirrels and birds have her full, undivided attention the moment they appear, and recall goes right out the window. A secure, fully fenced yard is a must. She's curious and has tested the fence line, so no gaps or spots she can wiggle through! Holly would love: A cozy lap to call her own A small, playful dog companion A quiet home or one with older kids A securely fenced yard Holly is ready to be someone's shadow and snuggle partner. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
