Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Rumor, affectionately known as Rumi! This adorable 4 year old Terrier mix weighs just 11 pounds and is a loving, devoted companion. Rumi's favorite place is right by your side, whether she is enjoying belly rubs, soaking up head scratches, cuddling on the couch, or following you from room to room. Her sweet nature and gentle personality make her a joy to have around. Rumi gets along well with both people and other dogs and has adjusted beautifully to apartment living with her 22 pound canine roommate. She is potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, and is eager to learn, especially when treats are involved. She is also making great progress with crate training and continues to build her confidence every day. Rumi would flourish in a home where she can be included in daily life and spend plenty of time with her people. She forms strong bonds with those she loves and would be happiest with someone who works from home, has a flexible schedule, or enjoys bringing their dog along for outings and adventures. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
