Description

Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: 300. MEET CHARLIE! This cute Beagle boy wandered up to a house in AL a few months back - and he was skin and bones. He was taken in by a friend of the finder who did the usual protocol of trying to find the owner - no luck. However, they were able to keep him and did an amazing job to get Charlie healthy. He is neutered and vetted, but he did test positive for heartworms. So the caregiver was chatting with a mutual friend of the rescue - and the caregiver contacted us asking for help. They love Charlie but wanted to be a stepping stone for him, not his final home. So we agreed to get Charlie treatment for heartworms and once he is completed, he will travel to WI in search of a forever home! He is 2-3 years old He lives with 2 black labs and loves the younger, more playful lab He would do best with a fenced yard - as Beagles love to wander He is great with a child age 9yrs He is easy going and mild mannered - not a hyper pup He needs a feline free home He is playful and good with other dogs He sleeps in his crate and is crate trained He does like to tip the trash over - so a sturdy solid trash can or confined to a closet is best He is mostly housetrained He affectionately goes by Charlie or Charles Barkely... He will travel to Wi once his treatment is done. .so if you could give a little prayer for his recovery to go well, we would sure appreciate it! If you are looking to add a Beagle to your pack - get that application in to be the first one to meet him when he arrives! pawsuppetrescue18.rescuegroups/forms/form

Overview:

The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
