Dog Breed: Hound (short coat). Adoption Fee: $525-$650 + MN tax. Lemon, and her sister's Peach and Mango, are sweet Hound mixes that are scheduled to be euthanized soon if they are not able to come to rescue. They are in a tiny rural pound in South eastern Kentucky that only has 6 kennels. They are forced to send dogs to to the bigger pound for euthanization upon intake, when their 6 kennels are full. Lemon, Mango and Peach are looking for a foster home and ultimately, an adoptive home! Lemon, Peach and Mango were dumped in a rural area and surviving on their own for months and starving, before they were picked up and brought to the shelter. We are trying to help get them here to safety and a good life. They are a little under socialized so a patient, understanding approach is what they need. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
