Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Take a look at Guy! This handsome fella entered a southern shelter as a stray. Guy is around a year and one month. He weighs in at 42 pounds. He is considered a mixed breed so it is a guess on what breeds he could be. When found he was afraid of people, but as he has adjusted to different people, places and things. He will need a patient adopter to help him find and gain lasting confidence in any situation. Guy plays well with the other dogs and mindful and respectful children that allow him the space and time he needs. He has not had the experience with cats since coming into rescue. He does scare easily, but once he has warmed up, he is so sweet and huggable. By the way, he thinks squeaky toys are the best. His house, crate and leash training are all in progress. He is ready to learn all he can so he can be a great house dog. Daily walks will support leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to him with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along his walk. A secure back yard will give him free time to play and burn off extra energy. Maybe he would also enjoy going for hikes. At home he will also benefit from mental stimulation in the form of activities and play toys. That will keep him from being bored. Think squeaky! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
