Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Adoption Fee: $400. Introducing our newest boy, Santa! This handsome well mannered boy is a easy, mellow mid aged 5 year old. Santa, formally named Otis was in our care before and has come back into our care for his previous owner is no longer able to care for him and has found his way back into the loving arms at DRM. A testament to our commitment and devotion to them that they will always have a place in our care no matter the time that has passed. Santa had obstruction surgery awhile back and his digestion is just a little more sensitive and will require a well balanced and premium quality diet and fed small meals through out the day and high digestible meals and only all natural treats. He’s doing great with his house training and hasn't had any accidents; he’s even learned to signal when he needs to go out! He is a polite eater and is very well-behaved in his crate during the day. He also loves good morning snuggles. - Kids: He is wonderful with kids! He’s been very sweet with the older children in our home. He has had experience with younger children in his previous home. - People: He is a social butterfly with everyone he meets in public. - Dogs: He’s a playful friend who loves to wrestle, run, and play tug-of-war. - Cats/Small Animals: He’s very curious and "flirtatious" with our cat, showing no aggression at all. Personality and Play This sweet boy is a total cuddle bug! He loves being close to people and has a fun time with tennis balls, even if he’s still learning the ropes of fetch. He settles in nicely during car rides after getting some initial pets. Training and Exercise He’s such a smart learner! He’s mastered "sit" and is making great progress with "lay down," "wait," and "leave it"—he can even balance a treat on his nose! Since he’s an enthusiastic walker and can pull, we recommend a training collar and continued obedience training for him. Fosters are still working on his recall, a fenced yard would be perfect to keep him safe while he explores. This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog. Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
