Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). .huskyrescueteam If you have additional questions please email infohuskyrescueteam A timid, tender Husky looking for a calm, patient forever home Heidi’s journey has been long and full of upheaval. She came to us through Animal Control after a court‑ordered surrender, a shy little Husky who had never truly known safety or stability. She underwent FHO surgery to repair her hip, and with time, gentle handling, and physical therapy, she has healed beautifully. What she needed most wasn’t just medical care — it was a quiet place to decompress and a foster home willing to let her move at her own pace. That’s where Heidi finally began to bloom. Heidi is completely housebroken, crate trained , and prefers having a fenced yard where she can explore safely. She is extremely timid and easily startled by noise, fast movement, or unfamiliar environments, but she is also deeply curious . With calm guidance, she will venture out, sniff the world, and take in new experiences. She greets her foster’s much larger dog with gentle sniffs and sits quietly beside him outside — she does best with calm, patient canine companions who won’t overwhelm her. Inside the home, Heidi has made slow but meaningful progress. She used to eat only behind a closed door; now she’ll eat with the door open and occasionally accept treats with her foster nearby. She prefers to control her environment — she may resist going outside or hide in small spaces — but these behaviors soften as she feels safe. She has no resource guarding , but she would not do well with loud or boisterous children. Heidi’s personality reveals itself in tiny, heart‑melting moments: a shy nose bump, a head tilt, the gentle way she places her head in your lap, or the way she offers her leg for a mini belly rub. She secretly loves ear scratches, finds comfort in calm voices, and will even settle when watching dog videos on YouTube. Outside, she needs 1.5–2 hours daily , following her foster around the yard, tracking smells, and occasionally looking for escape routes — a reminder that she needs a secure yard and supervision as she continues learning how to be a dog in a safe world. Heidi’s forever home must be quiet, patient, and understanding , ideally in a more rural setting with fewer overwhelming noises. She will thrive with a calm canine companion who can show her the ropes and help her feel secure. Her progress is slow, but it is steady — and every small victory feels enormous. One day, her majestic tail will lift high, and the little fox‑like personality inside her will shine as brightly as her beautiful green eyes. For the right adopter, Heidi will be one of the most rewarding dogs you ever love. Heidi is located in Maryland. ~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at .huskyrescueteam/apply If you have additional questions please email infohuskyrescueteam

Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
