Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). #2 of the 6 Ice Cream Flavor Dogs Cookie Dough is a 3-year-old black and tan piebald dachshund and weighs 12 pounds, She and 5 other dachshunds, known as the Ice Cream Flavor dogs, were brought into Diamond Dachshund Rescue when her owner passed away. Cookie Dough is shy and doesn't want to be picked up but will sit on your lap when you sit on the couch! She will lay beside you in the big bed too! Cookie Dough loves toys and chew bones. She will play with a toy for a while. She likes the other dogs in her foster home and wants to play when they go outside. She will wrestle and wants to chase around the yard. While Cookie Dough is good with adults, she isn't trusting enough of children. Since she was most likely not near them before, they make her nervous. Her best home would be one with no kids and most likely another dog to teach her further how to trust and feel safe. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
