Description
Dog Breed: Rat Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier. All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Meet Sasha & Precious: A Bonded Pair Looking for Their Forever Home Sasha and Precious are an adorable pair of bonded Jack Russell Terrier sisters who have been together their entire lives. Recently surrendered through no fault of their own, these sweet girls are adjusting remarkably well to life after leaving the only home they've ever known. Their previous owner allowed them to roam freely in a rural southern neighborhood, which unfortunately was not permitted, leading to their surrender. Despite this big life change, Sasha and Precious remain happy, loving, and devoted to one another. They share a special bond that we hope to preserve by finding a family willing to welcome both girls into their home. Precious is the smaller sister, weighing just 13 pounds, and is easy to spot thanks to the extra white on her head. Don't let her size fool you—she's definitely the boss of the duo! This confident little girl loves carrying toys around in her mouth and is always ready for adventure. She absolutely thrives in the yard, where her speed and agility are on full display. Precious enjoys the company of other dogs but likes to be the one calling the shots. Sasha, the bigger sister at 17 pounds, is every bit as fun-loving. Her favorite hobby? Taking apart toys with great enthusiasm! Like her sister, she loves running and playing outside and would be thrilled to have a yard where she can stretch her legs. Both girls adore people and are wonderful with children. They seem to get along well with other dogs and are currently fostered with one. When playtime is over, Sasha and Precious are happy to curl up with their humans for cuddles—or snuggle together when their people aren't nearby. These loving sisters have so much joy, affection, and companionship to offer. They have spent their entire lives side by side, and we would love nothing more than to find a forever home where they can continue their journey together. If you're looking for double the love, double the fun, and double the cuddles, Sasha and Precious may be the perfect pair for you! All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only.

Breed overview
Rat Terrier
A.K.A.: American Rat Terrier, Rattie, Feist, Ratting Terrier, Ratting Feist, Decker Terrier
Overview:
The Rat Terrier is a lively and intelligent American breed, originally developed in the early 20th century from a mix of Fox Terriers, Old English White Terriers, and other small terriers, primarily for farm work and pest control. These compact yet sturdy dogs typically weigh between 10-25 pounds and stand 10-18 inches tall, boasting a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of patterns, often with large patches of color over white. Known for their energetic and inquisitive nature, Rat Terriers are remarkably adaptable and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. While their boundless energy necessitates regular exercise and mental stimulation, they can thrive in apartments provided their needs are met. Generally a healthy breed, they have a lifespan of 12-18 years, though some may be prone to patellar luxation or Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Their friendly disposition and eagerness to please make them highly trainable and a joy to live with.
