FIONA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Fiona Best Guess for Breed: Terrier and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 6 months as of June 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 15.5 lbs as of 6/24/26; she is still growing! Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Fiona is shy right now and needs to go to a home with a friendly resident dog who will show her the ropes! Fiona is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie is at the tail end of puppyhood and is eagerly looking forward to having her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures that well loved family pets get - but she is a little shy right now and needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help her build confidence. A welcoming resident dog who shows her how to dog and dog school will help her build her braves too! Most of all, though, she wants to know she's safe and loved. In exchange she promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags she's storing up, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Does Fiona have a spot in your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: Fiona is a snuggly sweetheart who is just an introvert at heart. Her greatest loves in life are a good bone and rope toy to chew on, a cushy bed or crate to escape to when the world gets to be too much for her, and snuggling in your lap as her safe space. She plays nicely with other dogs and especially loves confident older dogs who can take her under their paw and show her the ropes. She will follow them around, take their lead in training commands, and picks things up fast. She does very well with gentle kids who understand she needs a little bit of time to warm up. She doesn’t exhibit any mouthiness and is working on typical puppy behaviors like housebreaking. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
