Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed. A SWEET LITTLE FELLOW: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 15 lbs. Hi there, I’m Amos! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and I’m very happy to be here getting the good care and love I desire. I got to spend about 5 days in a temporary foster home and had a lot of fun there! Now I’m back at the shelter and ready to meet my new family, hopefully soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and did not care for them, so I’ll want to be your only dog. / Cats unknown, though I do have a strong prey drive. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a cute little shortie with adorable brown splotches all over me and a curious, sweet personality. Initially, I was nervous and timid, and the bathtub was pretty scary for me, so I hugged the side for reassurance, but once it was over, I rewarded my bather with lots of tail wags, sweetness, and I happily walked back down the hallway. In my temp. foster home, I really showed my true colors and was described as a perfect gentleman, a good sidekick, and snuggle bug. I enjoyed being close to the family and I do have a bit of a prey drive when I’m out exploring the yard. Overall, I’m a sweet, fun little guy who blossoms when given a chance to feel safe and comfortable. Since coming back to the shelter, I am a bit stressed again and think that nothing will beat being in a great furever home! / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I know the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands so far and I also accept friendly strangers without jumping on them. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts and were also good in my temp. foster home. / My potty manners have been very good at Mostly Mutts as well as in my temp. foster home. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love snuggling, being petted, eating tasty doggie treats, and learning new things - as you can tell from the list of commands I already know. I’m a smart guy who enjoys using my brain and continuing to learn. I also enjoy being outside with my family, whether we're going for walks, running around the yard, or just spending time together. / Other than other dogs, I can’t think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m a smart and wonderful little dog looking for a wonderful family for life! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Jackshund is a delightful and energetic hybrid, a charming cross between the tenacious Dachshund and the spirited Jack Russell Terrier. Originating from designer breed popularity, these dogs inherit a unique blend of traits from both parents. Physically, they typically possess a compact build, often with the Dachshund's longer body and shorter legs, coupled with the Jack Russell's alert expression and sometimes wiry coat, though smooth coats are also common. Their temperament is generally described as playful, intelligent, and affectionate, often exhibiting a keen hunting instinct and a courageous streak. While they can be wonderful family pets, their energetic nature means they thrive with consistent training and ample exercise, making them potentially suitable for apartment living if their daily activity needs are met. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health considerations common to their parent breeds, such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their elongated spine, and certain eye conditions or patellar luxation, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
