Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. ❤️ Meet Piper – 2 Years Old and Looking for a Foster! Piper was found as a stray in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Her finders did everything they could to locate an owner — they notified the county, posted her on social media, and shared her everywhere — but no one came forward for this sweet girl. She’s about 2 years old, affectionate, and eager for human connection. We’re not fully sure how she feels about other dogs yet. In the finder’s home she barked at their senior dog, but it wasn’t clear whether she was trying to say hello or unsure how to interact. We’ll learn more as she decompresses. Right now Piper is in boarding, and we urgently need a foster in the local area to help her feel safe and start her new chapter. If you can open your home to Piper — even temporarily — please completer a foster application.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
