Description

Dog Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Meet Gerald His story began with heartbreak, but we're hoping it ends with the loving family he has always deserved. This sweet boy was found abandoned alongside his two canine siblings. All three dogs were underweight when they arrived at the shelter, making it clear they hadn't had the care they needed for quite some time. Despite everything he's been through, Gerald has remained incredibly kind, gentle, and trusting.Because Gerald came to us as a stray, we don't know much about his life before arriving at the shelter. However, since arriving at the shelter, we completed a meet and greet with another dog, and it did not go well. For that reason, we recommend Gerald be the only dog in the home. His history with cats is unknown.Gerald is calm and has an easygoing personality. He enjoys being close to his people and welcomes gentle affection, especially from those who let him approach at his own pace. His sweet nature shines through in every interaction, and he has handled shelter life with remarkable resilience. Now that he's gaining weight and receiving the love and care he deserves, Gerald is ready for the next chapter of his life a home where he'll never have to wonder where his next meal is coming from or whether he'll be left behind again. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart full of love, Gerald may be the perfect match. He deserves a family that will show him what forever truly means. If you are interested in meeting Gerald, please visit the shelter during open adoption hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 AM–12:30 PM & 2 PM–4 PM Thursday: 10 AM–12:30 PM & 2 PM–6:30 PM Saturday: 9 AM–1 PM If you do not own your home, please bring written consent from the property owner allowing a dog on the property. If you have another dog at home, please plan to bring them for a meet-and-greet before completing the adoption. Adoption fees: 6 months and younger: $250 7 months–5 years: $200 6–10 years: $150 11 years and older: $100 Watch for adoption specials! Rottweiler

A.K.A.: Rottweil butcher's dog, Rottweil dog, Rottie, Rotty, Rott, Rot, Rotts, Rotties, Butchers dog, German Rottweiler
Overview:

The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
