Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Meet Missy & Rusty! These sweet bonded 10 year old seniors came into our rescue about six weeks ago after their owner passed away, and sadly, they were left boarding at a local veterinary clinic for over a month with nowhere to go. When we were asked if we could help, the answer was an easy yes. Missy and Rusty are wonderful, easygoing dogs who have quickly settled in here at the rescue. They are friendly, affectionate, and get along great with everyone they meet. They would make amazing companions for someone looking for a pair of loving, low-maintenance pups. Missy and Rusty do eat a special diet to help manage some skin issues, and sweet Missy recently underwent a dental procedure where she had 23 teeth removed. Despite that, she is doing great and feeling much better! Both dogs are healthy, happy, and up to date on all of their veterinary care. After losing their family, we are committed to finding them a forever home where they can stay together and spend their golden years surrounded by love. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
